Exploring the Street Art of Madrid
It was to my delight to notice Madrid’s street signs while exploring the city centre. Different from the predictable, name-only signs in cities and countries, these are hand-painted ceramic tiles . Typically composed within 9 or 12 tiles, you will see the name of the alley or street, as well as illustrations that indicate special meanings. They are definitely representative of something which I would be happy to read up all about – such as Puerta Del Sol’s sign is a depiction of the historic view of the square. Once I spotted a sign, I could not help keeping a constant lookout for more! I could not find the history of these arty street signs. If you know the history, feel free to share them here!
